UCSF Sleep Researcher Speaks to Local PSP Support Group

UCSF’s Christine Walsh, PhD, joined the Brain Support Network local PSP support group on Sunday, March 9, 2025, where she talked about sleep issues in PSP.  Dr. Walsh wants to improve the quality-of-life for those with PSP and their care partners, as well as identify a sleep-based biomarker for PSP.

Dr. Walsh reviewed research into sleep and neurodegenerative disorders and did a deep-dive into her earlier UCSF study of sleep in PSP.

She explained the study she’s currently recruiting for — a 6-week cross-over, remote sleep study in PSP.

All study participants will receive a placebo and two other FDA-approved medications.  One medication is to encourage sleep while the other medication is to encourage wakefulness.  Sleep will be evaluated.  Participants sleep in their own beds for this study.

If you have questions, please email Dr. Walsh at [email protected]

This study is open to anyone in the US with PSP.  All interaction with the study coordinators happens via phone or email.  And the sleep headbands and study materials are mailed to participants.

I hope you can participate!  (By the way, the description above is mine.  If there are errors, it’s because I goofed, not Dr. Walsh!)
