Stanford University and Brain Support Network are co-hosting another webinar next month on evaluating and treating urinary problems in Parkinson’s, multiple system atrophy, and the other atypical parkinsonism disorders (progressive supranuclear palsy, multiple system atrophy, and corticobasal degeneration). Dr. Enemchukwu will address these topics:

  • Overview of urinary incontinence, retention, neurogenic bladder, nocturia, enlarged prostate
  • What’s the relationship between urinary issues and constipation?
  • How do urinary issues in MSA compare to those in PD?
  • What treatments are available — conservative, medication, and surgical?

There will be time for audience questions on urinary issues in PD, MSA, and the other atypical parkinsonism disorders (progressive supranuclear palsy, corticobasal degeneration, and Lewy body dementia).

The speaker is Dr. Ekene Enemchukwu, a urologist at Stanford University with extensive experience with PD, MSA, and similar disorders. Dr. Enemchukwu received her undergraduate degree from Duke University. She subsequently earned her combined degree in Medicine (MD) and Public Health (MPH) at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and Gillings School of Global Public Health. She completed her General Surgery and Urology training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She then went on to complete a prestigious fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery with concurrent training in Male Voiding Dysfunction and Neurourology at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City. She specializes in medical and minimally invasive surgical management of male and female conditions. Her research interests are in the areas of refractory overactive bladder in elderly/frail, neurogenic and underserved patient populations, detrusor underactivity, quality of life, and patient satisfaction.

The webinar will be hosted by Candy Welch, whose late husband Bob had multiple system atrophy, confirmed through brain donation. She facilitates the discussion among MSA caregivers at BSN’s support group meetings in the San Francisco Bay Area.
