Col. Lewis will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of service, compassion, and commitment to improving the lives of others will continue to inspire us all.
If you are a veteran or a veteran family, please contact Brain Support Network about making brain donation arrangements. If you have a financial need, the Col. Floyd Lewis Grant Fund can help.
Watch this webpage for additional details on the grants as funds are made available.
We are sad to announce the passing of Col. Floyd C. Lewis, USMC Retired in late August 2024.
For many years, he coped with Lewy body dementia and Parkinson's disease. He is survived by his loving wife X and his daughter Kelly Brezoczky of Carmel, California.
Wonderfully, the family of Col. Lewis is creating a grant fund to defray the brain donation costs for veterans in the US. These grants are available to veterans with a financial need for whom Brain Support Network is arranging the brain donation. Brain Support Network specializes in brain donation for those with neurological conditions and healthy controls.
The family's goal is to raise $33,000 for this grant fund, in recognition of the 33 years Col. Lewis served in the United States Marine Corps.
Brain Support Network assisted Kelly Brezoczky in making urgent, comprehensive arrangements for her father's brain donation. We suggested a friendly cremation organization who offered dignity deserved by families of all veterans. We also coordinated all the activities before and at the time of Col. Lewis's passing, in order to fulfill the family's wish for brain donation. Kelly appreciated this "all-encompassing" support.
Researchers need donated brain tissue of those who died with Lewy body dementia, Parkinson's disease, and other neurological disorders if treatments, causes, and cures are to be found. Kelly's primary goal in donating her father's brain was to enable this medical research.
A second reason to donate your brain or a loved one's brain is to enable your family to receive a confirmed diagnosis. Surprisingly, half of the 1,500 brain donations that Brain Support Network has arranged have resulted in a confirmed diagnosis different than the diagnosis given during life.
All charitable contributions in memory of Col. Lewis will be designated to this grant fund. Please donate today and mark your contribution in memory of Col. Lewis. The family would appreciate it if you allow Brain Support Network to share each donor's name and contact information with the family. (Brain Support Network does not share the individual contribution amount.)
