In this terrific article, author Myrna Marofsky says she experienced “built, grief and constant fatigue” as her husband’s 24/7 caregiver, but that she suppressed these truths.
She notes that “longing…losses” — such as the loss of a relationship, the loss of conversation, and the loss of a partner in making significant decisions — can lead to care partner fatigue. She believes that fear of all the unknowns “can be numbing. It consumes emotional energy.” Also, she says that “One of the most exhausting truths contribution to my fatigue was the constant need to think for both of us.”
While the title of the article refers to dementia caregiving, these “truths” apply to all kinds of caregiving.
